Testimonials

The information was incredibly well-structured. I felt that my questions were anticipated. Amazing job!

I was challenged, inspired, and feel like I'm leaving with real tools.

Our training with Heartwork Collective helped our Board recognize power dynamics and examine biases, but in a way that felt more like team building than training. Tina and Daemond helped guide us through difficult conversations by encouraging us to trust and respect each other.  I would highly recommend working with Heartwork to help deepen understanding of equity and to help facilitate tough conversations about race, gender and identity.

Exploring culture and social identity alongside my colleagues was powerful and continues to reverberate.  I’m more aware of what I carry into this institution consciously and unconsciously and I’m more mindful of my role in the organizational change work we hope to achieve.

Probably the best presentation concerning racial awareness that I have been to. This co-facilitation team delivered information that was unbiased and objective.

Teasing apart difficult real life scenarios was super helpful because these are situations that actually happen when we are working and I think it’s important we know how to deal with these situations. Sometimes I wonder how to deal with conflict and I can’t figure out what to say. I liked discussing and learning what the appropriate, expected responses would be!

HEARTWork Collective brought it all! Useful tools for interrupting oppressive situations, a helpful framework for naming and framing challenges, and an interactive workshop format. Thank you!

Teaching Artist, Vashon Artists in Schools

I took a 10-week course on race and oppression, and it is amazing to me that Daemond and Tina could thoughtfully cover all the content they did in a 90-minute session.

I've been wanting this kind of training for a LONG time.

Teacher, Lawton Elementary, Seattle

As the Heartwork team, Tina and Daemond have a transformative presence. They bring years of expertise as teaching artists to their work facilitating deep and necessary conversations about race and social justice—epitomizing the teaching ideals of creating community, building concrete goals, imparting skills, and giving teams the chance to engage in deep systemic level reflection of their work and world. Heartwork has been an indispensable part of not only our Writers in the Schools annual retreats, but have also lead ongoing trainings and reflections at meetings throughout the year. All participants feel brought along by these trainings, and leave fueled with inspiration and new tools to do the hard work necessary to continue compassion-based justice to their artistic and teaching practice out in the world.
